From our security, baytown police officer Nathan Gallop.

Holiday season is upon us now. There are going to be MORE Burglaries of homes and more Burglaries of vehicles. My suggestion: Don't put or leave anything in your vehicle that LOOKS like it can be valuable. It might just be an empty box, but the crook doesn't know that when he breaks out your window to take it. When you go Holiday Shopping, either take the bags from other stores inside with you(carry the receipt), or make sure you cover them up. Around the holidays crooks have gone as far as watching someone that comes out with a nice purchase, then follow them to the next store, and wait for them to go inside, and break into their vehicle. Make sure your vehicles are locked and don't leave things like, GPS mounts, and various car charging cables in plain view, those are just clues to crook what might be inside your vehicle. If you do own a GPS device that has a suction cup for the windshield, make sure you put the mount away and wipe off the circle shaped mark that it leaves on your window. Those are just other clues to crooks.

Remember to park in areas where the most amount of people will walk past your vehicle, if that is not possible, park nearest building security cameras.

Baytown police department will have officers patrolling parking lots of businesses on Garth road, during the Holiday Shopping season. They will be on Police 4 wheelers and their sole purpose is to watch your vehicles. But, burglaries still happen so keep an eye out.

For your home, I know everyone likes to set up the Christmas tree and pile all the wrapped presents under the tree. If at all possible, keep the wrapped presents out of view. A crook likes nothing better then to look in a window and see all the wonderful stuff all ready for him to take. He doesn't even need to look around. Remember to look your doors and windows, keep your garage doors shut when you aren't home.

Stay safe this holiday season, do your part to prevent being a victim.
